Relations between Denmark and Kenya go back a long way. Karen Blixen presented her love and admiration for Africa in a deeply fascinating way that has forever secured Kenya a special place in the hearts and minds of Danes. Many young Danes followed up on this fascination and became volunteers when Denmark immediately after independence established a development co-operation programme with Kenya. But they were not alone - business people and subsequently tourists also discovered the beauties of Kenya and thousands of Danes have visited or lived in Kenya over the years. Similarly many Kenyans have visited Denmark.

These days relations between Denmark and Kenya are multifaceted. Denmark is among the ten largest donors and tourism, flower export and business partnerships have increased significantly. Denmark is an active participant in the harmonisation, alignment and coordination of development assistance, which will make it easier for Kenya to ensure that the assistance supports the development priorities of the country. But Kenya and Denmark also have a mutual interest in securing a stable and peaceful regional situation in the region and work jointly to secure that. The mutual respect between our two countries have made it possible to maintain an intensive dialogue even when we occasionally have disagreed on important issues.

This web page will contribute to keeping broad sections of the public in both countries informed about developments in the bilateral relations and thus ensure that the continued dialogue will be based on transparent information and mutual respect.
